Setup guide
If you intend to use a Cable or Satellite provider for your digital services, they will carry out the installation of your set top box for you. If you intend to use a Freeview™ set top box to receive digital through your aerial, then setting up your TV is easy and should not require any specialist installation.
Before you install your set top box, take the following steps
- Read the user manual for your set top box. Most user manuals are simple to follow and will give guidance on how to connect the box.
- Check the connections on your TV and VCR/DVD recorder. Make sure that you have the necessary cables. Many set top boxes do not come with connecting cables.
- Switch off and unplug your TV and VCR from the mains. Do not connect any cables or aerials to equipment that is connected to the mains.
Once you have connected everything, you will need to get your set top box working. These simple steps will get you ready in next to no time:
The diagram above shows a typical installation of TV, VCR/DVD recorder and set top box that will be applicable to most households.
- Check that the aerial lead is connected to the set top box. This is the most common cause of tuning issues
- Check that the batteries are correctly installed into the remote control for the set top box
- Switch on the TV and VCR
- Select the AV input for your set top box, this will normally be AV1
- Switch on the set top box. The Start-up screen should be displayed
- Follow the on screen instructions to tune the set top box, this should happen automatically
- Use the setup or installation menu on the set top box to set the output to match the characteristics of your TV, screen type, output quality etc.
