Get to grips with the new look Windows 7
The desktop has been given an overhaul and makeover in Windows 7 to introduce a clean new look, and few new navigation features to make using your computer easier and more intuitive. We'll explain a few of the cooler features in this article.
New taskbar
One of the biggest changes you'll notice when you first turn on your computer is the new taskbar. The Quick Launch toolbar and section for open programs has gone, and you're now presented with simple graphical icons.
Pin to taskbar
You can pin an open program to the taskbar so that it's always there. Handy for programs you use a lot as you can click the icon to open the software rather than hunting through the Start menu. If you want to add a program to the taskbar, right-click its icon and choose 'Pin this program to taskbar'.
Thumbnail previews
The new taskbar allows you to preview open documents, web pages and even live video. Hover over an icon to see a preview of all tabs or windows open within a program then click the item you want to view or work with.
Windows Aero®
Aero was introduced with Windows Vista® and provided the rich visual interface that was a big improvement over Windows XP. Windows 7 sees even more improvements to the Aero interface with some useful navigational improvements.
Aero Shake
It's easy to end up with a cluttered desktop full of open windows and documents. If you need to reduce the clutter and focus on just one window, click it and give your mouse a shake. All the other windows will disappear allowing you to work without distraction. Shake your mouse again and all your windows will come back.
Aero Peek
Aero Peek allows you to quickly see your desktop and any gadgets you have running by making all of your open windows transparent. Move your mouse pointer to the bottom right hand corner of the task bar to activate Aero Peek.
Snap
Snap allows you to resize windows easily, which is handy if you want to compare information in two different windows. Drag one window to the left and another to the right and Snap will resize them equally on the screen so that you can look at both windows together.
